Speshletter #3 - Shanghai

Wow, has it already been another month? Time flies when you’re having fun. And you’ve been able to outlast 500 billion MORE houseflies that have got a chance to live their lives and have fun.

Since the last Speshletter I’ve had time to really sit down and take in everything that’s happened in Shanghai, and I’m excited to tell you all about it. So find a nice soft spot to sit in, take a sip of some hot cocoa, wrap yourself around your favorite blanket, because I’ve got some really fun news to tell you.

If you read the last Speshletter you’ll know that I got to finally debut my exhibition “Dumb Dreams and Messy Hands” at the Shanghai K11 Art Mall. What I didn’t tell you is that we had been working on this show for 2 YEARS! It kept getting pushed back because of Covid, but finally it all come together. It’s crazy to think about, BUT what’s even crazier that I got to meet all these fans on the other side of the world that have been watching my cartoons for so long. I honestly didn’t know what to expect.

I flew to Shanghai alone and felt so welcomed when I arrived, and was greeted with open arms by the Shanghai team. Seeing everything in person was nuts and I knew for weeks and months leading up to it that it was going to be a very emotional experience for me to see everything finally coming together in person. At this point I still didn’t know what to expect, but the opening went off with a bang. I’m beyond honored that from now until October 6th, the show will be there to create memories, bring smiles, and introduce people to my art and message. It’s really a wild feeling for that to all be happening out in Shanghai while I’m out here in the States

Watch the instagram video below to see the comprehensive walkthrough.

The experience of throwing this event has got me excited to do even more, so look forward to more international shows in the future. And if you thought that show was crazy, just wait until you see what we’re working on next. My goal for Coolman in 2023 and beyond is to spread my art and message. In this post-Covid world I want to do more IRL stuff that can create memories for people. Whether they’re familiar with my work or not. Whether you’re a super-fan or have never even seen my stuff before. Bring people together and creating memories is what makes me feel good. It’s something that brings me genuine joy.

Now I know a lot of you didn’t get to experience the show in person, but I have something coming out that everyone will be able to partake in to celebrate what’s going on in Shanghai. So stay tuned for that.

Here’s this weeks drawing prompt from Nate Felton. Really liked how they wanted a cowboy weenie dog riding a hot while eating a corn dog. IF you want to be included in the next one.

I can’t wait to show you what we have in store. Oh, and don’t forget…
